Installation of a Carron 4.7kw stove in Porlock Somerset.  The customer for today’s job had a very clear idea of the sort of look she wanted us to achieve and with the help of local building company Marley Building Services we had one happy customer.

This job was a little bit different from most fireplace knock outs as the original fire place opening was on the adjacent side of the wall to where she wanted the new stove. Before any work took place we sheeted up the room to protect any of the customers belongings from dust, then work could begin. First job was to pop in a couple of new lintels to support the existing chimney, once these were set into place the new opening could be worked on and the old fire place opening could be blocked up and re-plastered. Once the opening had been knocked out to the desired width a good tidy up took place ready for the making good. To achieve the desired effect the customer wanted of an old inglenook fire place brick slips were used thus taking up less space in the fireplace allowing for the opening to stay a good width, brick slips were also used to create the arch above the fire, we laid a nice new slate hearth for the new stove to sit on. Once this was finished it was time to add a new register plate and drop the new flexible liner in, once the liner was cut to length we attached a new chimney cowl now all that was left to do was put up a new CO alarm and have a good tidy up.
